Event: 1930s CHRISTMAS ON THE FARM
Date: Sat 6 Dec 2014 - Sat 20 Dec 2014
Time: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Location: Rentschler Farm Museum, 1265 E. Michigan Ave., Saline, MI
Description: Simple Gifts in Simple Wrappings

NEW CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE This year, we are trying out a new schedule to welcome visitors during Christmas. Instead of the usual weekend open house, we are open three SATURDAYS in December: the 6th, 13th, and 20th during our regular hours 11:00-3:00. Admission is by donation .

See how farm families coped at Christmastime, when faced with a tight money situation during the Great Depression years. Our 12-room farmhouse will be decorated with natural things that might have been found on the farm. A live tree will grace the parlor with genuine 1930s ornaments and lights. Simple decorations, good aromas throughout the house, and pleasing sights and sounds will greet visitors as they enter the front door. There will be some musical interludes throughout the afternoon and light refreshments.

DEMONSTRATIONS: Knitting on a Sock Machine, Spinning, and Quilting.

As cold weather will allow, the Farm Gift Shop will open to offer Saline memorabilia and history books, Michigan crafts, small toys, and stocking stuffers. Shopping Michigan products for family and friends helps to sustain a strong and diverse economy, as well as support the work of the historical society.

The Rentschler Farm Puzzle sells for $10 each. This beautiful 500-piece puzzle, featuring a collage of photographs from farm events, was produced by the society in recent years.

Avoid the hustle and bustle of shopping in the big box stores. Support your local historical society by purchasing your meaningful gifts in our shop.

ADMISSION: By Donation.
